LokKathayein.in is built to preserve these living memories before they fade away. It has been built as a crowdsourced archive to make stories travel from one region to another.
Why every telling matters
There is no single “correct” version of a folk tale. Two people remember the same story differently, and every regional telling carries the unique flavour and creativity of the person who shared it. We aren’t here to crown an official version or rank contributors; we are here to make room for all of them.

While the internet easily preserves books and photos, it struggles to capture what lives purely in people’s memories. This portal is for those ordinary, cherished stories that everyone knows but nobody has time to write down — until now.

We also respect privacy: teller identities require permission, and locations are recorded only down to the district level.
